Public value – promoting accountancy

Under ACCA’s global public value remit the organisation is committed to building the profession in parts of the world with no tradition of accounting practice. As part of this agenda ACCA is working with Afghanistan and has recently met with employers, learning providers and policymakers to discuss progress. The meeting, which was held in Dubai and coordinated by ACCA and the Afghanistan Ministry of Finance (MoF), builds on an MOU signed between them in February 2015.

The discussions supported the development of concrete action plans through which ACCA, the Afghanistan MoF, and their partners in Afghanistan – including learning providers, the government and employers – work collaboratively to increase the capacity of the national profession.

Dr Afra Sajjad, head of education - emerging markets, ACCA, said: 'This is about ensuring the delivery of ACCA qualifications in Afghanistan in a sustainable way that meets local needs and ensures a pipeline of qualified accountants. Our experience of supporting tuition providers to deliver quality tuition and implementing a holistic range of support for students, tutors and employers will be key to establishing a pipeline of qualified professionals in the face of the unique challenges in Afghanistan.
